London Lithuanian Folklore Ensemble

SADUTO

The ensemble, which has been active since 2005, offers folkloric dance and song to its audience and listeners. A dance that was not created specifically for the stage, danced by our creative elders and left as a great legacy. The dance, although it has left its natural environment - family and village community meetings, danced in granaries and fields, and has now been transferred to the urban environment, and even taken to the stage, has not lost its meaning and charm. The ensemble's repertoire includes many games and circles, and Lithuanians living in London from all corners of Lithuania are happy to circle with the audience at the events, which is why songs from all the ethnographic regions can be heard here. Every effort is made to sing them in the dialect of the region so that they remain as they were written down and preserved, sung by our grandmothers.

"Saduto is growing in membership (currently 30 members) and expanding its repertoire, taking part in more and more diverse events.

The stylised costumes, created by artists and dictated by the fashions of the time, are being abandoned. The ensemble opts for a costume close to the folk costume worn in the 19th century, reflecting the peasants' everyday clothes, and clothing reflecting the different regions.

The ensemble has performed many times at the Lithuanian Homestead and at celebrations of national holidays organised by the Lithuanian community. They also take part in schoolchildren's celebrations and Christmas parties. The ensemble is also invited to perform in other cities of the country and is already known to the audiences of Birmingham, Thetford, Peterborough, Sidmouth, Eastbourne, Penzance, Dublin, and Cork.  Perhaps the most responsible performances have been concerts at the Lithuanian Song Festivals and Folklore Days.

The ensemble is not limited to participation in Lithuanian community events. It has performed at the Thames Festival, and every year it participates in the Dance Around the World festival of dances of different nations. The ensemble is well-known and willingly invited to festivals organised by other nations and municipalities. Such events are a great opportunity to show a piece of our culture to other nations.

In order to foster and promote Lithuanian culture, two years in a row in September they organised the Autumn Equinox gathering with Veronika Povilioniene, the ensemble "Blezdinga" and the Kirdai Family.

In December 2008, he travelled to Sydney, Australia, where he participated in the Australian Lithuanian Days Dance Festival, and also visited the Lithuanian community in New Zealand, where he organised a folk party.

The group took part in European folklore festivals in Italy and Turkey.
